WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Trapped amidst a scandal regarding use of private planes for official business, U.S. Health Secretary Tom Price has resigned.

The 62-year-old Price resigned on Sept. 29 saying he regretted that “recent events have created a distraction” from the work of the health department.

Seema Verma and Bobby Jindal are widely being speculated as possible candidates to fill the position.

A White House press release says that said President Trump accepted Price’s resignation. Don J. Wright is the acting health secretary. He is currently deputy assistant secretary for health.

Verma is administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Among others named as potential candidates include Bobby Jindal, a former governor of Louisiana, who was one of the strongest critics of Trump.

Verma, who has been playing a key role in the “repeal and replace” of Obamacare, has won accolades from Trump multiple times.

“The Trump administration and congressional Republicans might decide Seema Verma is too valuable exactly where she is,” New York Magazine said, however. “As for Bobby Jindal — well, on paper he is perfect for the next HHS secretary,” it said.
