DUXBURY, Mass. (Diya TV) — Patrick Clancy has spoken publicly about the deaths of his three children and his life after the mistrial of his former wife, Lindsay Clancy.
In his first televised interview since the trial, Clancy told CBS’ “60 Minutes” that he believes he did what he could while trying to help Lindsay navigate severe mental health problems before the January 2023 killings.
“I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time,” Clancy said.
Lindsay Clancy did not dispute killing Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Her attorneys argued that postpartum psychosis left her unable to understand the wrongfulness of her actions. Prosecutors argued that she planned the killings and remained criminally responsible.
A judge declared a mistrial Sept. 4 after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict following seven days of deliberations. Eleven jurors later said they believed Clancy was not criminally responsible because of her mental illness, while one juror disagreed. Plymouth County prosecutors have not announced whether they will retry the case.
Patrick Clancy testified that Lindsay had struggled with depression, insomnia and intrusive thoughts in the months before the killings. She sought treatment from several providers, took multiple medications and spent several days receiving inpatient psychiatric care.
Clancy told “60 Minutes” that he returned home from an errand on Jan. 24, 2023, and found his children in the basement. Cora and Dawson died that day. Doctors treated Callan at Boston Children’s Hospital for four days before he died.
Clancy said he forgave Lindsay shortly after the deaths and continues to believe mental illness drove her actions. He also addressed baseless online claims that accused him of involvement in the children’s deaths, saying the speculation added to his grief.
After the killings, Clancy moved from Duxbury to New York City. He later married Dr. Rachel Danis, a fertility specialist. The couple told “60 Minutes” they are starting a family, and Clancy said he plans to tell his future children about Cora, Dawson and Callan.
