CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Diya TV) — Harvard University’s Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute hosted its annual Welcome Back Mixer on Sept. 8, bringing together about 150 students, 15 faculty members and nine South Asia-focused student organizations.
The event was held at Harvard’s CGIS South and included presentations from faculty and student organizations about South Asia-related research, courses and campus programs.
Faculty Director Diana L. Eck opened the program with remarks on the institute’s work during the past year, including its Living with Rivers project.
Former institute director and Harvard Business School professor Tarun Khanna discussed research focused on climate and health. Other participating faculty represented Harvard programs in medicine, public health, law, architecture, music, physics and South Asian studies.
Harvard Graduate School of Design professor Rahul Mehrotra discussed his work in India and research involving architecture, urbanism, climate, health and housing. Satchit Balsari, an associate professor in emergency medicine, also introduced his research and courses.
Mittal Institute Executive Director Hitesh M. Hathi introduced representatives from nine student organizations, including the Harvard South Asian Association, Harvard South Asian Law Students Association, Harvard Bangladeshi Students’ Association, Harvard College Pakistani Students Association, Harvard Bhangra and Harvard Dharma.
The India Caucus at Harvard Kennedy School, South Asian Business Association at Harvard Business School and India Conference at Harvard also participated. Representatives presented their upcoming programs and activities.
The event concluded with a South Asian dinner.
