LONDON (Diya TV) — In East London, the Shree Sorathia Prajapati Hindu Community Centre on Cleveland Road in Ilford was engulfed in flames late Saturday during ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The London Fire Brigade extinguished the blaze, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the community centre was adorned for a ceremonial Ganapati Visarjan event when the fire broke out. Firefighters swiftly responded, deploying over 40 personnel and six fire engines to bring the blaze under control by 9:21 pm.
Authorities noted no signs of arson, with initial investigations suggesting accidental causes, possibly related to celebratory fireworks, but the exact cause remains under review. Local MP Jas Athwal expressed gratitude for the rapid emergency response and urged residents to stay clear of the area as investigations proceed.
This incident follows a recent pattern of targeted attacks and suspected arson in East London, including a serious blaze at an Indian restaurant in nearby Gants Hill just days ago. That earlier fire, however, is being treated as deliberate, leaving communities on edge.
