NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — In a high-profile meeting between FBI Director Christopher Wray and NIA Director General Dinkar Gupta in New Delhi, the FBI chief revealed the agency is actively and aggressively investigating the attacks on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco that occurred on March 19 and July 2 this year.
Wray, leading a high-level FBI delegation, engaged in candid discussions with NIA officials on various issues, including the nexus between terrorist organizations and organized criminal networks, cyber-terror investigations, and cyber-crime activities. The FBI director emphasized the evolving challenges and threats of terrorism, stressing the need to take the partnership and cooperation between the two agencies to the next level.
During the meeting, Gupta highlighted the increasing threats in the cyber domain, where terrorists exploit digital space for radicalization and recruitment. He also noted the use of cryptocurrency for terrorist financing, indicating the evolving nature of cyber threats.
As first reported by Diya TV, the attacks on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco were attributed to pro-Khalistan supporters, who attempted to set the diplomatic facility on fire following the killing of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. The FBI’s investigation into these attacks aligns with the broader context of pro-Khalistan elements operating from the US and Canada.
The meeting also addressed challenges faced by law enforcement agencies worldwide in obtaining data from encrypted apps. Both agencies acknowledged the complex landscape of organized crime networks, terrorism-related crimes, cyber-enabled terror attacks, ransomware threats, economic crimes, and transnational terror crimes. Wray said he looked forward to exploring new opportunities for collaboration between the FBI and the NIA.
Gupta thanked the FBI for its role in training and capacity building for Indian police officers. The FBI & NIA have a shared commitment in combating terrorism globally.
