SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. (Diya TV) – 23-year-old Indian student Om Brahmbhatt has been arrested for allegedly murdering his grandparents and uncle in a New Jersey condominium. The South Plainfield Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Om is accused of fatally shooting Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt, 72, Bindu Brahmbhatt, 72, and their son Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, 38.
Responding to a 911 call on Monday, officers found Dilipkumar and Bindu dead from gunshot wounds, while Yashkumar was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Om has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and second-degree weapon possession.
Having recently moved to New Jersey, Om had been living in the condominium where authorities found him upon arrival. Reports indicate that Om used a handgun purchased online to carry out the alleged murders. Strikingly, Om himself called 911, confessing, “It might be me.”
Neighbors revealed that this wasn’t the first instance of police presence at the condominium, mentioning a previous domestic violence call. The Traditions apartment complex, known for housing many Indian families, is equipped with numerous security cameras that residents hope will aid the ongoing investigation.
Om’s seemingly calm demeanor during court appearances raised questions about the motive behind the brutal crime. Meanwhile, Yashkumar’s wife, Nikki Brahmbhatt, mourned the loss of her husband, parents-in-law, and urged privacy during this difficult time.
As the investigation continues, the case will proceed to a grand jury, and Om Brahmbhatt remains in Middlesex County jail.
