SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Diya TV) — Fan excitement for Super Bowl LX has taken a hit after major problems with official merchandise left many supporters frustrated. Online sports retailer Fanatics issued a public apology after running out of New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks gear just days before the NFL’s biggest game. The backlash grew quickly as fans complained about empty shelves, missing jersey sizes, odd designs, and high prices. Social mediais filled with photos and angry posts, forcing Fanatics to respond as criticism spreads across platforms.
Fanatics acknowledged the issue Monday night in a statement posted on social media. The company said it “let Patriots and Seahawks fans down with product availability” and added, “We own that, and we are sorry.”
The retailer blamed the shortage on an unexpected surge in demand. Fanatics said jersey sales jumped nearly 400% since Thanksgiving compared with last year. Both teams reached the Super Bowl after missing the playoffs the previous season, which caught planners off guard. The apology did little to calm fans who expected better preparation from the NFL’s official merchandise partner.
Fans from both teams said jerseys sold out within hours or never appeared in certain styles. Many Patriots supporters said white jerseys were hard to find. The team plans to wear white uniforms during the Super Bowl, which made the shortage worse.
Other fans shared photos of shirts with misplaced patches, strange color choices, and designs that did not match team branding. Several users also questioned the quality of the fabric and stitching. Replica jerseys sell for about $160. Many fans said the price felt unjustified given what they described as poor materials.
Fanatics pushed back against claims about quality. The company said the gear uses the same Nike template fans have seen in recent seasons. It added that some online images made the apparel look worse than it is in person.
The retailer said it restocks team-colored jerseys daily and continues to add new options ahead of Super Bowl week. Fanatics also reminded customers of its free return policy, which allows shoppers to send back items at no extra cost. Still, many fans said the response missed the main issue.
Some fans argued that handling high demand is part of Fanatics’ job, especially for the Super Bowl. Many said the event’s scale should remove any excuse for shortages. Others raised concerns about Fanatics’ dominant role in the sports merchandise market. The company holds exclusive rights to produce official NFL apparel, which limits alternatives for fans.
That frustration fueled the hashtag #EndFanatics, which trended as users called for a boycott. Critics also pointed to past issues with shipping delays and quality complaints across other sports leagues. Several fans questioned whether one company should control so much of the official sports clothing market without stronger accountability.
Fanatics said it will continue to expand its Super Bowl merchandise selection in the coming days. The company hopes to resolve most availability issues before kickoff. Super Bowl LX will take place Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
