SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — In an exclusive interview with Diya TV, California Attorney General Rob Bonta reiterated his dedication to protecting the rights and safety of all communities within the state and underscored a zero-tolerance approach towards hate crimes in the wake of another attack on a Hindu temple in California.
Bonta weighed in on a recent surge of hate incidents that have hit the Indian American community hard. Two arson attempts on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco in 2023 remain unsolved – the latter in July 2023 was first reported by Diya TV that caused an international fervor. Now California’s largest Hindu temple in Chino Hills was targeted by at least two suspects as determined by surveillance video.
Bonta denounced these actions, saying, “It’s not acceptable and it can’t be tolerated. People deserve peace, safety, and the ability to exercise their constitutional rights.” He underscored the need to safeguard people’s freedoms, such as expression and religious practice, which are core to the country’s values.
The Attorney General understands the frustration of the public since updates on resolving these issues remain sparse. But he guaranteed law enforcement agencies are working hard to ensure perpetrators face consequences.
“Please know that this is an issue of priority,” Bonta added, assuring that such behaviors are not acceptable and will never be acceptable. Outside of the Indian American community, Bonta spoke out about increased hate crimes targeting other groups, such as the Jewish and LGBTQ+ communities. He reaffirmed his office’s commitment to fighting discrimination and making all Californians feel safe and respected.
While investigations continue, Bonta’s message to targeted communities is unchanged: “You deserve to be safe, not to be attacked or targeted, and those folks who are attacking you. Will be held accountable. “The Attorney General’s steadfast resolve reflects California’s commitment to building a society where diversity is promoted and the rights of all people are safeguarded.
