MENLO PARK, California (Diya TV) — Meta has named Dina Powell McCormick as its new president and vice chair, bringing a veteran banker and former senior U.S. government official into one of the most powerful leadership roles at the social media and technology giant. The company confirmed to Axios that Powell McCormick will join Meta full-time and report directly to CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg. Her appointment signals Meta’s growing focus on artificial intelligence, global infrastructure, and large-scale capital partnerships as it reshapes its future beyond advertising.
Powell McCormick previously served on Meta’s board from April to December last year. Her move into management places her at the center of the company’s strategy during a critical period of investment and expansion.
Zuckerberg said Powell McCormick’s experience makes her uniquely qualified to guide Meta’s next phase of growth. He highlighted her deep ties across global finance and government. In a statement, Zuckerberg said Powell McCormick will help Meta partner with governments and sovereign investors. Her work will focus on building, deploying, and financing AI systems and infrastructure around the world.
Meta said Powell McCormick will work closely with its compute and infrastructure teams. The goal is to ensure the company’s multi-billion-dollar investments stay on track and deliver economic benefits to local communities. The company also said she will lead efforts to build new strategic capital partnerships. These partnerships will help Meta expand its long-term investment capacity as competition in AI intensifies.
Powell McCormick joins Meta from BDT & MSD Partners, a Chicago-based merchant bank known for advising powerful family-owned and founder-led businesses. She spent several years as a senior leader at the firm and will continue to serve on its advisory board. Before that, she worked for 16 years at Goldman Sachs. She held multiple senior leadership roles and built relationships across banking, energy, and global markets.
Her public service career also adds to her profile. She served as deputy national security adviser during President Donald Trump’s first term. She also worked as an assistant secretary of state under President George W. Bush. These roles placed her at the intersection of business, diplomacy, and national security. That experience now aligns with Meta’s growing need to work closely with governments on technology and infrastructure.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon praised Powell McCormick in a statement to Axios. He said he has known her for about 20 years and described her as an exceptional banker. Dimon said clients respect her ability to execute and deliver results. He added that her relationships rival those of many top finance CEOs.
Gregg Lemkau, co-CEO of BDT & MSD Partners, also welcomed the move. He said Powell McCormick’s appointment reflects her experience and judgment. He added that the firm remains proud of its leadership.
Powell McCormick is married to Sen. David McCormick, a Republican from Pennsylvania. Her political and financial ties give her broad influence across Washington and Wall Street. Her former firm has also been linked to discussions around a potential deal involving TikTok. While no direct role has been confirmed, reports suggest U.S. investors connected to BDT & MSD Partners could still be involved.
A small stake in TikTok remains unnamed, according to the company’s most recent divestiture filing. That has fueled continued speculation within the tech and investment community.
Meta still earns most of its revenue from digital advertising. However, the company has made clear it wants to build its future around AI, data centers, and advanced computing. Powell McCormick does not come from an advertising background. That stands out at a company long defined by ads and social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
Her hiring reflects a broader shift at Meta. The company now aims to position itself as a global technology and infrastructure leader, not just an ad-driven platform. With Powell McCormick in a top leadership role, Meta is signaling that finance, partnerships, and geopolitics will play a larger role in shaping its next chapter.
