NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Sergio Gor formally assumed charge as the new U.S. Ambassador to India on Monday, striking an optimistic tone about the future of U.S.-India relations and pledging to advance President Donald Trump’s priorities while strengthening the strategic partnership between the two democracies.

In his first public message from New Delhi, Gor said he was honored to join the U.S. Embassy team and eager to begin work at a critical moment in bilateral ties. He shared his remarks in a post on the social media platform X, using a traditional Indian greeting to mark the occasion.

“Namaste! Today marks my first day at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi,” Gor wrote. “I am honored to join this dedicated team and eager to get to work advancing President Donald Trump’s priorities and deepening the U.S.-India partnership.”

He added that he felt confident about the future of both nations under Trump’s leadership and expressed strong optimism about the days ahead for India-U.S. relations.

Gor also addressed a gathering at the U.S. Embassy earlier in the day, where he highlighted the long-standing and historic relationship between Washington and New Delhi. He described India as an indispensable partner for the United States in the months and years ahead.

“Highlighting the importance of India-U.S. ties, Gor said that no other partner is more essential than India,” according to embassy remarks shared after the event.

He said his tenure would focus on an ambitious agenda aimed at expanding cooperation across multiple areas. Gor stressed that both nations bring strength, leadership, and mutual respect to the table.

“In the months and years ahead, it is my goal as ambassador to pursue a very ambitious agenda,” Gor said. “We will do this as true strategic partners.”

Gor is widely seen as a close associate of President Trump and a trusted lieutenant within his political circle. His appointment to India comes at a time when bilateral relations have faced visible strains despite strong people-to-people and strategic links.

Tensions rose after the Trump administration imposed 50 percent tariffs on certain Indian goods. The relationship also faced pressure following Trump’s public claims related to the brief India-Pakistan conflict in May last year. Those statements drew attention in both countries and added friction to diplomatic exchanges.

Despite these challenges, Gor sought to reassure Indian audiences about the broader relationship between the two leaders and governments. He said Trump’s personal rapport with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains genuine and strong.

“I’ve travelled all over the world with President Trump, and I can attest that his friendship with Prime Minister Modi is real,” Gor said. “Real friends can disagree, but always resolve their differences in the end.”

Gor acknowledged that disagreements exist but emphasized that dialogue and cooperation would help overcome them. He said the partnership between India and the United States rests on shared interests and direct engagement at the highest levels of leadership. He framed his mission in clear terms, saying he had come to India with a single goal in mind.

“The new U.S. Ambassador further stated that he has come to India with a clear mission – to take the partnership between our two nations to the next level,” he said.

Gor also highlighted the symbolic importance of the relationship, calling it a meeting point of democratic traditions.

“This is the intersection between the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy,” he said.

Analysts see Gor’s appointment as a signal that the Trump administration wants to stabilize and expand ties with India despite recent disputes. Trade, defense cooperation, regional security, and technology partnerships are expected to feature prominently in discussions going forward.

As Gor begins his tenure in New Delhi, expectations remain high on both sides. His early remarks suggest a focus on rebuilding trust, managing differences, and reinforcing the strategic importance of India-U.S. relations in a rapidly changing global landscape.
