SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — The California State Senate passed a bill that would make caste discrimination illegal in the state. Senator Aisha Wahab’s bill, SB 403, flew through the Senate in a 34-1 vote. It now goes to the Democratic-controlled State Assembly and, if it passes there, it would go to Gov. Gavin Newsom to make it official. If that happens, California would be the first state to protect caste.
In Oregon, Indian American Jobanpreet Singh was booked for allegedly shooting to death two men in a mall parking lot. The motive remains unclear but witnesses say they heard yelling and arguing before shots were fired.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk settled a $10,000 defamation lawsuit filed against him by Indian American Randeep Hothi. Hothi says Musk falsely accused him of actively harassing and almost killing Tesla employees.
