SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – Known for architectural marvels and the revered Mahakaleshwar Temple, the 5000-year-old Indian city of Ujjain has played host to architecture students the world over for generations.

Noopur Jain grew up in this ancient city and is now making a mark on an ambitious initiative across the Pacific. Jain is a key member of California’s high-speed rail initiative, a project decades in the making. The goal is to connect the major cities in America’s most populous state through varied terrain.

The project has had its share of hiccups, as cost overruns will likely push the budget in excess of $100 billion. It will also take at least another decade to complete.

But Boris Lipkin, the Northern California Regional Director, believes a lot of progress has been made. Major hurdles have been cleared in this effort to help the Golden State cut greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing transportation options to tens of millions.

For Jain, who also worked for the Indian Space Research Organization that just put India on the moon, this project has a spirit of innovation she believes millions of Californians will appreciate.
