TRACY, California (Diya TV) — In a deeply troubling incident that has shocked the local community in Tracy, California, a 57-year-old father of six-month-old triplets was kidnapped in broad daylight and later found dead, authorities and multiple news outlets report.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows the man, identified as Avtar Singh, being forcefully pushed into the back of a white SUV by three unidentified individuals near the Guru Nanak Parkash Gurdwara along West Grant Line Road on the afternoon of February 17, 2026.
Singh was reported missing later that evening when his wife returned home and found their young triplets alone. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office began a search that spanned several days, with law enforcement and community members hoping for his safe return.
The family and local Sikh community were devastated by the sudden disappearance, noting Singh’s long-standing role within the temple community and his active involvement in both cooking and helping others.
On Friday afternoon, authorities discovered a body near Lake Berryessa, roughly two hours from Tracy. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office later identified the remains as Singh’s.
Investigators have said that while the specifics of the motive remain unclear, preliminary information indicates Singh was not the intended target of the kidnapping, suggesting a case of mistaken identity. Officials are continuing to pursue leads and identify the individuals responsible for the crime.
The tragedy has deeply affected Singh’s family, particularly his wife and the infant triplets, who were left without their father. Members of the temple community have rallied to offer support, including fundraising efforts to help cover funeral expenses and assist the family during this difficult time.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as part of the ongoing homicide investigation.
