U.S. military and intelligence sources told Bloomberg that at least 16 aircraft have been lost since operations began on Feb. 28. These include 10 drones and several advanced fighter jets. One of the most notable incidents involved an F-35 stealth fighter. Officials said the aircraft was hit by suspected Iranian fire and forced to make an emergency landing at a U.S. base in the region. The pilot survived and remains in stable condition. A spokesperson for US Central Command confirmed the safe landing but did not directly attribute the strike to Iranian forces.
The conflict has also taken a human toll. Thirteen U.S. service members have died since the start of operations. Six died in a mid-air incident involving a KC-135 refueling tanker. The aircraft was destroyed during the operation, killing everyone on board.
