JAIPUR, India (Diya TV) — 14 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripted history Monday by smashing the second-fastest century in Indian Premier League history and becoming the youngest male cricketer to score a T20 hundred. The Rajasthan Royals batter lit up the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, reaching his century off just 35 balls to lead Rajasthan to a thrilling eight-wicket win over Gujarat Titans.

Suryavanshi, a left-hander from Bihar, reached his 50 in just 17 balls before completing the landmark hundred in the 11th over by pulling world-renowned T20 spinner Rashid Khan for a towering six over mid-wicket. He finished with a breathtaking 101 from 38 deliveries, hammering seven fours and 11 sixes, before falling to Prasidh Krishna in the 12th over. His innings helped Rajasthan chase down a daunting target of 210 in only 15.5 overs, snapping a five-game losing streak.

With his blistering knock, Suryavanshi broke the previous youngest men’s T20 century record, held by Vijay Hari Zol, who scored a hundred at age 18 in 2013. Suryavanshi only turned 14 last month and was signed by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore (approximately £103,789) during last year’s IPL auction after a fierce bidding war.

Facing a strong Gujarat attack, including Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma and Prasidh Krishna, Suryavanshi showed no signs of nerves. He repeatedly cleared the ropes with clean swings and sharp wrist work, sending the ball soaring over the long-off, long-on, and mid-wicket boundaries. In one memorable over, he smashed Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat for 30 runs, including three sixes and three fours.

Suryavanshi shared a 166-run opening partnership — the highest in Rajasthan Royals’ IPL history — with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 70 from 40 balls. The dominance of the young duo left Gujarat Titans, despite fine knocks from Shubman Gill (84 off 50) and Jos Buttler (an unbeaten half-century), struggling to keep pace.

Every Gujarat player congratulated Suryavanshi as he walked back to the pavilion after his dismissal. Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid, who has been recovering from an injury and was seated in a wheelchair, rose to give the teenager a standing ovation, underscoring the significance of the moment.

Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise has been closely watched since he burst onto the scene last year. In October 2024, he scored a 58-ball century for India Under-19s against Australia Under-19s in a Youth Test match in Chennai. He also starred in India’s Under-19 Asia Cup squad, averaging 44.

At the domestic level, Suryavanshi plays for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy, having debuted at just 12 years old. In five first-class matches, he has scored 100 runs with a highest score of 41.

The victory kept Rajasthan Royals’ slim hopes of reaching the IPL knockout stages alive, while Gujarat Titans dropped to third on net run rate.
