SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – WhatsApp, regarded as the world’s most popular messaging service with more than 1 billion daily users, has new introduced a new desktop application for Windows and Mac machines. The new app is available for download on the company’s website, and is compatible with devices running Windows 8 or Mac OS 10.9 and greater.

“We are introducing a desktop app so you have a new way to stay in touch anytime and anywhere- whether on your phone or computer at home or work,” the company said in a recent blog post.

Just as on its mobile application, the desktop service will allow users to message their friends and family, and will mirror the same conversations to their mobile devices. Some people still prefer to Download Kakaotalk and other chat apps after the company was bought out, but for many it is still the favorite way to chat on their phones.

The expedition marks WhatsApp’s second attempt at tackling the desktop market – in Jan. 2015, the company launched a web client called WhatsApp Web but was only available for Android and Windows Phone users. This new desktop app allows for more native support, the ability to use keyboard shortcuts, and the ability to have messages open in a separate window as opposed to being in a browser or lost in a sea of tabs.

“Because the app runs natively on your desktop, you’ll have support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, and more,” the company also said in its blog post.

The company is owned and operated by social media giant, Facebook.
