SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — The Golden State Warriors suffered a devastating setback late Monday night. Star forward Jimmy Butler tore his right ACL during a game against the Miami Heat. The injury is expected to end his season. The Warriors went on to win the game 135-112. But the victory felt hollow after Butler collapsed in pain during the third quarter. The arena fell silent as he grabbed his knee and shouted in distress. Team staff helped him off the court and escorted him to the locker room.
The injury came as the 2025-26 NBA season approaches its final stretch. The timing could not be worse for Golden State, which has relied heavily on Butler at both ends of the floor.
The Warriors have not released an official medical report. League sources believe the injury will keep him out for the remainder of this season and part of next season. An ACL tear often requires surgery and months of rehabilitation. Most players need at least nine months to return to full basketball activity.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed the injury during his postgame press conference. He spoke with concern and emotion as he discussed Butler’s impact on the team.
“We’re all really concerned, but we’ll know more after the MRI,” Kerr said. “Everybody is subdued because of the injury, waiting to hear the news. He’s an alpha. He’s one of those guys in the league who everybody else in the gym knows that’s the guy.”
Kerr highlighted Butler’s leadership and presence on the court. He also acknowledged the challenge the team now faces without one of its top stars.
“He has that presence, but he also has that game where we can play through him possession after possession,” Kerr said. “So, assuming we’ll be without him for a little bit, we’re going to miss him. We’ve got a lot of players who can play, and we’re showing our depth right now. We’ll just wait for the news to figure out what’s next.”
Jimmy Butler has played a key role for Golden State this season. He ranks as the team’s second-leading scorer behind Stephen Curry. His scoring, defense, and toughness have fueled the Warriors during crucial moments. Against Miami, Butler logged just 21 minutes before the injury. He still finished with 17 points, three rebounds, and four assists. He attacked the rim aggressively and set the tone early.
His absence will leave a major gap in the Warriors’ lineup. Butler often guards the opposing team’s best wing player. He also creates offense when Curry draws extra defensive attention. The Warriors now must adjust their rotation and strategy. Younger players and bench contributors will need to step into larger roles.
The Warriors entered the final phase of the season with playoff hopes still alive. Butler’s injury complicates that path. Golden State must now rely more on Curry’s scoring and playmaking. Veterans like Draymond Green will need to provide added leadership. The coaching staff will also need to find consistent production from the bench.
