SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Former congressional candidate Saikat Chakrabarti said he is returning his focus to policy work following his third-place finish in the June primary for California’s 11th Congressional District.
Chakrabarti received about 17.9% of the vote in the June 2 primary. State Sen. Scott Wiener finished first with 40.7%, while San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan received 29.7%. Wiener and Chan advanced to the Nov. 3 general election.
After the primary, Chakrabarti converted part of his campaign operation into SF Solidarity PAC, an independent expenditure committee supporting Chan and other candidates. More than 100 former campaign workers joined the effort, according to reporting by the San Francisco Examiner.
The PAC has conducted phone banking and canvassing in support of Chan in San Francisco’s 11th Congressional District. Chakrabarti endorsed Chan after the primary despite differences between the two during the campaign.
Chakrabarti also plans to devote more time to New Consensus, the policy organization he co-founded and leads. The organization is developing “Mission for America,” an economic policy framework focused on industrial development, clean energy and the effects of artificial intelligence on the economy.
Before running for Congress, Chakrabarti worked on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign, co-founded Justice Democrats and served as campaign manager and later chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
