NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Universal Studios is making its highly anticipated entry into the Indian market with the launch of its first theme park in the country. Slated to open in mid-2027, the Universal Studios park will be located at Aerocity, adjacent to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

The project marks a major milestone for India’s fast-evolving entertainment and tourism sectors. The indoor theme park will occupy roughly 300,000 square feet—about 10% of the 3 million square foot mall currently under development by Bharti Realty. This new mall-and-entertainment complex will be part of the larger 17 million square foot Aerocity master plan, which already features 6.5 million square feet of built infrastructure.

Announced earlier this month, the development is poised to reshape the leisure landscape of Delhi–NCR. “This is a landmark moment for India’s entertainment sector,” said a Bharti Realty spokesperson, highlighting the project’s potential to position Delhi as a global tourism and entertainment destination.

The Universal Studios theme park will be entirely indoors, offering a climate-controlled environment—a strategic move tailored to Delhi’s extreme seasonal variations, from scorching summers to monsoon rains and chilly winters.

Unlike traditional open-air amusement parks that often contend with weather-related closures, the enclosed design of Universal Studios India will enable year-round operations. This feature is expected to attract steady footfall from families, tourists, and corporate groups alike, making it a reliable and inclusive entertainment hub.

Universal Studios’ India venture arrives at a time when the country’s appetite for immersive entertainment is booming. According to data cited in the project’s announcement, India currently hosts around 6.6 million square feet of indoor entertainment space across 523 locations. That number is projected to rise to 11 million square feet by 2028, fueled by increasing disposable income, the rapid expansion of mall culture, and a growing demand for experiential leisure options.

Bharti Realty’s larger Aerocity development is expected to be a major economic driver. The mall-and-entertainment zone alone is projected to generate over ₹5,000 crore (approximately $600 million) in annual rental revenue. The Universal Studios park will contribute significantly to this ecosystem by creating thousands of jobs in areas such as operations, hospitality, logistics, retail, and entertainment.

The India project is part of Universal’s broader international expansion strategy, following successful ventures in the United States, Japan, Singapore, and China. However, this will be Universal’s first fully indoor theme park concept, customized for the Indian market and its unique urban conditions. While the company has yet to reveal detailed plans for the attractions, industry observers expect a lineup of globally beloved franchises, immersive experiences, and family-friendly rides.

This initiative also aligns with the Indian government’s ongoing push to boost tourism infrastructure and attract foreign investment in the entertainment sector. With its global brand recognition, Universal Studios is expected to elevate Delhi’s profile on the international tourism map.

As construction begins in the coming months, anticipation is building across the region. “Universal Studios India is more than just a theme park—it’s a signal of India’s arrival as a key player in the global entertainment arena,” said a senior analyst tracking international leisure developments.

The project promises not only world-class attractions but also a transformative impact on Delhi’s tourism and commercial landscape. As 2027 approaches, India’s entertainment sector is gearing up for what may be its most significant leap yet.
