NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his Independence Day greetings and said Kyiv counts on India’s role in ending the war with Russia. His remarks highlighted India’s growing importance in global peace efforts.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude in a post on X. He said Ukraine values India’s dedication to “peace and dialogue.” The Ukrainian leader added that as the world seeks “dignity and lasting peace,” Kyiv looks to India for help in ending the war with Russia.
He also shared a letter from Modi dated August 24. The letter thanked Zelenskyy for his warm wishes on India’s Independence Day and reflected goodwill between the two countries.
In his message, Modi wished the people of Ukraine a future marked by peace and progress. He wrote that India stands with efforts to bring about an “early, abiding and peaceful resolution” to the conflict. Modi stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way forward.
“I warmly recall my visit to Kyiv in August last year,” Modi said in the letter. “I look forward to working with you to further strengthen our mutually beneficial cooperation.”
India has consistently urged both Russia and Ukraine to resolve their differences through talks. Modi previously shared this position with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy during visits to Moscow and Kyiv.
New Delhi has avoided taking sides in the conflict. Instead, it has promoted dialogue as the only sustainable path. Indian officials say peace talks, not fighting, will decide the future of Ukraine.

In a statement, the ministry reaffirmed India’s belief that solutions “cannot be found on the battlefield.” It added that the world is waiting for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy and Modi have exchanged greetings several times over the past year. On August 16, Modi thanked the Ukrainian leader for his Independence Day wishes to India. He said the people of India “earnestly wish our friends in Ukraine a future marked by peace, progress, and prosperity.”
Zelenskyy, in turn, said every step that strengthens diplomacy helps improve global security. He linked peace in Ukraine with stability in Europe, the Indo-Pacific, and beyond.
The exchange of letters and messages underscores a growing diplomatic relationship between Kyiv and New Delhi. Both leaders continue to stress cooperation despite the ongoing war.
