OREM, Utah (Diya TV) — Tyler Robinson, a 22‑year‑old resident of Utah, has been arrested and identified as the suspect accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a campus event at Utah Valley University. The arrest follows days of intense investigation and public attention.
Authorities released surveillance video showing the suspected gunman walking to and from the site of the event. One of Robinson’s family members recognized him in the images and contacted police, according to two senior law enforcement sources. Public records show Robinson’s most recent voter registration was in July 2021, and he is registered as “no party,” with no declared affiliation.
Charlie Kirk, co‑founder of Turning Point USA, was speaking at an outdoor “American Comeback Tour” event on September 10 when he was shot from a rooftop roughly 200 yards away. Witnesses captured video of a man wearing all‑black tactical gear, a hat, and sunglasses fleeing across a roof and then descending toward wooded terrain. Investigators later recovered a .30‑caliber bolt‑action rifle hidden in the woods believed to be the weapon used. Forensic evidence from the rooftop includes a palm print, a forearm imprint, and a shoe impression.
President Donald Trump confirmed on September 12 that the suspect had been taken into custody, saying he was turned in by someone very close, possibly his father, with the help of law enforcement contacts. Trump expressed that there is “a high degree of certainty” that Robinson is the person responsible.
Turning Point USA issued a statement highlighting the threats Kirk had faced over the years, saying he always prioritized speaking to young Americans despite personal risks. “All of us will miss Charlie,” they said. “None of us will ever forget him.”
Robinson’s father has been described by some as having turned him in to police. There is no public confirmation yet of Robinson’s motive or political beliefs beyond existing record. The case is under active investigation by local and federal authorities.
