SURREY, Canada (Diya TV) — Two teenagers were apprehended in connection with a shooting incident at the South Surrey residence of Khalistani separatist Simranjeet Singh on February 1. The suspects, both 16-year-old males from Surrey, have been released without charges at the time being. The investigation into the motive behind the attack remains ongoing. The Youth Criminal Justice Act safeguards their identities.

Authorities responded to the incident in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Surrey, where gunshots were fired at a home on 154 Street near 28 Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. There were no reported injuries, but evidence of the shooting was discovered upon police arrival. Eyewitnesses said the home and the car parked on site was riddled with bullets.

The CBC says the targeted residence belongs to Simranjeet Singh, a close associate of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Khalistani leader and Sikh temple president who was fatally shot last year. Nijjar’s murder remains unsolved.

The Surrey RCMP’s serious crime unit conducted a search of a home in the 7700-block of 140 Street on February 6. During the search, law enforcement seized three firearms and several electronic devices.

The shooting at Simranjeet Singh’s home came a few days after he organized a pro-Khalistan protest at the Indian consulate in Vancouver, according to CBC News.
