SANTA CLARA (Diya TV)  — TiE Silicon Valley’s President, B.J. Arun, has formally announced that this years annual TiEcon has been cancelled due to the danger of COVID-19, a virus that has been declared an official pandemic that has claimed over 4,600 lives and 126,000 people infected globally. As a Santa Clara based convention, a County with 48 currently confirmed cases of the Coronavirus, the chances of the virus spreading to convention attendees has posed a serious risk.

Countries around the globe are tightening entry into their borders, with Italy currently undergoing a complete nationwide lockdown, India suspending all visas and enforcing quarantines. and the United States banning all travel to and from Europe for 30 days.

TiEcon 2020 has been postponed to an unknown date for later this year in accordance with Santa Clara County’s ban on mass gatherings of 1,000 people or more; in addition to this numerous organizations and employers are asking their workers to avoid traveling and to work from home if possible.

Arun noted that this years convention is planned to retain its current theme and agenda, with Pepsico’s CEO Indra Nooyi to provide the event’s grand keynote. TiEcon is reassuring the community that the organization is prioritizing the safety of its attendees, staff and volunteers.
