PHOENIX (Diya TV) – Authorities say three Indian Americans drowned after falling through a frozen lake in Arizona. The trio was walking on the ice sheet when it broke. The three victims, Gokul Medisetti and husband and wife couple Narayana and Haritha Muddana, had lived in Arizona for many years. The couples’ teen daughters witnessed what appears to be a tragic accident.
In California, Governor Gavin Newsom nominated Indian American Judge Shama Mesiwala for the state’s 3rd District Court of Appeal. The Indian American was one of 16 judicial appointments announced by Newsom’s office. Mesiwala is a past president of the South Asian Bar Association’s Sacramento chapter.
Mikey Hothi is now the first Indian American and Sikh Mayor of Lodi, California. He has been on the town’s city council for years. His parents are from India and his family played an instrumental role in helping set up the community’s first Sikh temple.
