Bangladesh, (Diya TV) After their recent success against Australia in the T20 format, India continues to juggernaut through the Asia Cup with comprehensive victories against the host nation, Bangladesh and then Pakistan. The new-look Indian team with a mix of veterans (Yuvraj Singh, Ashish Nehra) and youngsters (Hardik Pandya) is a force to be reckoned with for the T20 world cup which begins later this month.
The established Asian teams: Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh definitely have a “home-court” advantage, but they don’t seem as aligned yet. All three teams have a world-class pace bowling attack – young and fast, and consistency through the tournament will decide which ones hold their nerve at critical junctures. Bangladesh definitely can click as a complete batting and bowling unit to beat the best of teams on their given day. Pakistan continues to exhibit sparks of brilliance, but it’s Sri Lanka that has the edge with their sheer ability to be the consistent underdogs.
So with the Asia cup being a great build up, we’re counting on at least 2 of the final 4 T20 World Cup teams being from the sub-continent. Based on current form and track records, India is expected to be one of them with the other one being either Sri Lanka and/or Bangladesh. Which leaves the other two slots open for Australia and South Africa. Both these nations have deep rosters of players who’re superstars at the IPL level, and have experienced playing in the hot and muggy Indian batsmen friendly conditions.
