DALLAS (Diya TV) — The Hindu community of Dallas-Fort Worth hosted a dazzling Diwali celebration labeled “Sparkle of Joy,” bringing together over 150 attendees for a night of cultural pride, unity, and festive cheer. Held at the home of Pankaj and Mahima Kumar, the event celebrated the universal message of Diwali: light triumphing over darkness.
The gathering showcased the contributions and solidarity of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain communities in the region, emphasizing their cultural and economic impact on the metroplex, home to a 350,000-strong Hindu population. Leaders from over 80 temples and organizations stood together, highlighting the strength of interfaith and intercultural collaboration.
The celebration was attended by a notable group of leaders, including county judges, mayors, city officials, and representatives from the Consulate General of India in Houston. Dignitaries emphasized the growing significance of Diwali within the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Coppell Mayor Wes Mays humorously remarked, “Our future is so bright, we all have to wear shades,” while Carrollton Mayor Steve Babick praised the festival’s role in fostering community unity. Addison Mayor Bruce Arfsten commended the Hindu community’s influence on local business, education, and civic life.
Consul Prashant Sona delivered an inspiring address on the significance of Diwali, highlighting its universal message of hope and renewal.
The evening began with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp, led by Pankaj Kumar and Consul Sona, accompanied by the resonant sound of a conch blown by Hemant Kale of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS). Guests were treated to captivating cultural performances, including an elegant Odissi dance by Pushpa Panda and a veena recital by Aarati Prabhala of Sangeet Bharati.
The celebration also featured a traditional Indian feast and uplifting music, creating a lively atmosphere that blended cultural pride with festive joy.
The event underscored the Hindu community’s philanthropic efforts, including Sewa Diwali, a nationwide food drive promoting service and compassion. Proclamations from cities like Frisco, Plano, and Flower Mound recognized Diwali as an integral part of the region’s cultural identity.
“This gathering demonstrates the power of togetherness in fostering harmony and understanding in DFW’s diverse metroplex,” said Mahesh Chamaria of HSS.
As the evening concluded, Gitesh Desai of Sewa International expressed gratitude to attendees, inspiring a renewed sense of community and purpose. The “Sparkle of Joy” celebration served as a beacon of unity and optimism for the region.
