WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Billionaire investor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have spent more than $102 million during the 2026 U.S. midterm election cycle, according to federal campaign finance records. The spending has made the Soros family one of the largest financial backers of Democratic political efforts ahead of the November elections.

Campaign finance filings show that most of the family’s political spending has flowed through Democracy PAC, the super PAC George Soros founded in 2020. The organization now serves as the family’s primary political vehicle. Meanwhile, Alex Soros has taken a larger leadership role after his father transferred control of the political operation before the 2024 presidential election.

Federal Election Commission records show that only about $793,800 of the family’s contributions came directly under George Soros’ name. However, Democracy PAC received about $102 million in total. Of that amount, roughly $52 million came from George Soros through his private corporation, Geosor. Another $50 million came from the Fund for Policy Reform, a nonprofit that lists Alex Soros as one of its directors in tax filings.

The latest figures already exceed the family’s reported contributions to Democracy PAC during the 2024 election cycle. At that time, campaign records showed about $67 million in donations to the committee. As a result, the family has increased its political spending by more than 50% during the current midterm cycle.

Political observers say the transition of leadership has shifted more responsibility to Alex Soros. Parker Thayer, an investigative researcher at the Capital Research Center, said Alex has become the leading political figure within the family’s network. He added that George Soros has stepped back from day-to-day political leadership.

In addition to Democracy PAC, both George and Alex Soros have made direct campaign contributions to several Democratic candidates. Federal records show that both donated the maximum individual contribution to Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner. They also contributed the maximum amount to Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia, Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia, Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington, Rep. Ro Khanna of California, and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

Alex Soros also made separate personal donations totaling more than $140,000 to Democratic candidates and committees during the current election cycle. Many of the candidates supported by the family have promoted progressive policies on healthcare, climate change, voting rights, and economic issues.

The family’s broader philanthropic network also continues to draw public attention. The Open Society Foundations and the Open Society Action Fund have supported a wide range of organizations that advocate for criminal justice reform, voting access, immigration policy changes, and other progressive causes. Unlike political action committees, some nonprofit organizations do not disclose all of their political spending under federal law. Therefore, complete information about every political expenditure is not publicly available.

Supporters of George Soros argue that his political giving reflects his long-standing commitment to democratic institutions, civil rights, and open societies around the world. The Open Society Foundations have repeatedly stated that their mission focuses on strengthening democracy, protecting human rights, and promoting accountable government.

Critics, however, argue that the family’s political spending gives wealthy donors too much influence over elections and public policy. Douglas Kellogg of Americans for Tax Reform criticized the level of financial support provided to Democratic candidates. Similarly, Republican National Committee spokeswoman Delanie Bomar said the donations demonstrate the party’s dependence on large political contributors.

According to campaign finance analyses, George Soros currently ranks as the largest individual donor of the 2026 midterm election cycle. His political contributions have made him one of the most influential donors in American politics for more than two decades.

George Soros, 95, was born in Budapest, Hungary, and survived the Nazi occupation before moving to the United Kingdom. He later built one of the world’s best-known hedge funds and gained international recognition after earning about $1 billion during Britain’s 1992 currency crisis, often referred to as Black Wednesday.

With more than four months remaining before Election Day, campaign finance experts expect additional political donations from major donors across both parties. Therefore, the final spending totals for the 2026 midterm elections could grow substantially before voters head to the polls in November.
