LOS ANGELES (Diya TV) — Sikhs of America honored Sikh community leaders, lawmakers, philanthropists, and business figures from the United States, Britain, and Pakistan during its annual Vaisakhi Gala Dinner in California. The event celebrated public service, humanitarian work, and Sikh representation in global society.

The organization recognized several prominent Sikh personalities for their work in politics, business, education, and community development. Awardees included Virginia Delegate JJ Singh, industrialist Baldev Singh Kang, philanthropist Sardar Bahadur Singh, Pakistan Punjab Minister Ramesh Singh Arora, and British Sikh lawmaker Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi.

The gala highlighted the growing role of Sikhs in politics, humanitarian efforts, and business leadership around the world. Organizers said the event aimed to showcase Sikh contributions to mainstream American society while inspiring younger generations. Jasdip Singh Jassi, who leads Sikhs of America, said the organization created the initiative to strengthen awareness of Sikh values and achievements.

“We should continue this love and give our youngsters and coming generations the message of Sikh values,” Jassi said during the event.

The annual Vaisakhi Gala Dinner has become an important platform for recognizing Sikh excellence and encouraging community engagement. Vaisakhi is one of the most significant festivals in Sikhism and marks the founding of the Khalsa in 1699.

Among the evening’s most recognized speakers was JJ Singh, who made history as the first turbaned Sikh elected to a state legislature in the United States. Singh spoke about the Sikh principles that shaped his political campaign and public service journey. He encouraged young people to work hard, help others, and stay connected to their values.

“Work hard, serve others, and believe in something bigger than yourself,” Singh said.

He also stressed the connection between Sikh teachings and American ideals.

“Sikh values are American values,” he said. “It’s about the overlap between the values of our faith and the values of our country.”

Singh discussed legislation he supported in Virginia related to protecting places of worship, lowering college costs, and reducing gun violence. Organizers praised his efforts to increase Sikh representation in American politics.

Ramesh Singh Arora received recognition for preserving Sikh heritage sites and supporting Sikh pilgrims visiting Pakistan. During his remarks, Arora highlighted the importance of the Kartarpur Corridor, which allows Sikh pilgrims from India to visit one of Sikhism’s holiest sites in Pakistan without a visa.

He also discussed efforts to improve access to historic gurdwaras and preserve Sikh religious heritage in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Organizers said his work has strengthened ties between Sikh communities across borders.

Baldev Singh Kang earned recognition for his achievements in business and industry. Organizers pointed to his work in the trucking and steel sectors and noted his growing business presence in India, Armenia, Dubai, and the United States.

Sardar Bahadur Singh received honors for humanitarian and educational efforts. Organizers said he supported free medical treatment programs and educational initiatives for families in need. The event also recognized British Sikh MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi for promoting diversity, democratic values, and minority representation in the United Kingdom Parliament.

Dhesi has often spoken publicly about inclusion and equal opportunities for minority communities in British politics. Organizers praised his efforts to raise Sikh representation on the international stage.

The Vaisakhi Gala Dinner reflected the increasing visibility of Sikh leaders in politics, business, and social service worldwide. Community members at the event praised the achievements of Sikh lawmakers, entrepreneurs, and activists who continue to break barriers in their respective fields.
