WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — President Donald Trump criticized the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday after the justices blocked new U.S. Postal Service requirements for mail ballots from taking effect before the November midterm elections.
The court on Monday rejected the Trump administration’s request to pause a federal judge’s injunction against the rule. The decision leaves current mail-ballot procedures in place while the legal challenge continues.
The Postal Service issued the rule in August after Trump directed the agency to develop new requirements for election mail. The rule would require election officials to use approved ballot envelopes with voter-specific barcodes, submit envelope designs for Postal Service review and upload voter information to a federal portal.
Trump criticized the ruling in a Truth Social post and repeated his opposition to widespread mail voting. His administration has argued that the requirements would strengthen election security.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh agreed that the rule should remain blocked for the 2026 election, saying state and local officials did not have enough time to implement the requirements before voting began. He wrote separately that the Postal Service could still prevail on some of its legal arguments as the case moves forward.
Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented. Alito argued that the Postal Service has authority to regulate election mail and that the administration had met the legal requirements for a stay.
The case will continue in lower courts, but the challenged Postal Service rule will not apply to mail ballots in the Nov. 3 midterm elections under the current order.
