EDMONTON, Canada (Diya TV) — A 22-year-old Sikh student from Punjab was brutally murdered in a downtown Edmonton parking lot on September 4. The victim, Jashandeep Singh Mann, was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon while working part-time at a Tim Hortons restaurant.

The Edmonton Police Service has charged 40-year-old Edgar Wesker with second-degree murder of Mann. Wesker, who was arrested at the scene shortly after the incident, has been remanded into custody.

Staff Sgt. Colin Leathem with the EPS Homicide Section said Mann and Wesker did not know each other prior to the attack. “We can confirm that both men were not known to one another and this appears to be an isolated incident,” Leathem said. The police also said that Wesker stayed on scene and was rapidly arrested by officers.

Mann had been in Edmonton for eight months as an international student. He was reportedly attacked while on duty at the Tim Hortons outlet. According to a fundraising portal opened in his memory, Mann was brutally assaulted by a driver of a truck who inflicted multiple wounds before fleeing the scene.”.

The incident sent shockwaves through the community, taking with it an outpouring of support toward Mann’s family.
