PENSACOLA, Fla. (Diya TV) — Republicans Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine won the two Florida special elections on Tuesday, retaining GOP control of Florida’s 1st and 6th Congressional Districts. These victories reinforce the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives to 220-213.

In the 1st District, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis beat Democrat Gay Valimont. Though Valimont held a massive fundraising lead, Patronis’s campaign was bolstered by solid support in this reliably Republican bastion. The seat opened up after previous Representative Matt Gaetz pulled his nomination for U.S. Attorney General following accusations of improper conduct, which he has denied.

In the 6th District, State Senator Randy Fine defeated Democratic challenger Josh Weil. Weil’s campaign had received significant financial support, raising about $9 million to Fine’s $1 million. Despite the difference, Fine won the seat vacated by Mike Waltz, who stepped down to serve as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser.

Both of the wins were narrower than Republican margins in these districts before. Fine’s margin in the 6th District was roughly 10 percentage points lower than Waltz’s in 2024. Patronis’s victory in the 1st District was by a smaller margin than Gaetz’s earlier wins. These outcomes indicate a possible voter shift, with Democrats becoming more competitive in Republican strongholds.

President Trump celebrated the outcomes, stating on his Truth Social platform, “The Trump endorsement, as always, proved far greater than the Democrats forces of evil. Congratulations to America!”

Democratic candidates expressed optimism despite the losses. Josh Weil noted, “This result is also a warning sign to Donald Trump, Randy Fine, and the unelected oligarchs taking apart the government.”
