WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, a key member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), joined his House colleagues in endorsing H.R. 5375, the Strengthening the Quad Act. This legislation aims to fortify the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) by establishing an Interparliamentary Working Group among the United States, India, Japan, and Australia. The Quad’s primary goal is to bolster security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region while enhancing collaboration to address shared challenges.

Krishnamoorthi said, “As we work to address the economic and security challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party, it is imperative that we strengthen collaboration and coordination with our democratic partners in the Indo-Pacific Region.” He expressed pride in voting for the Strengthening the Quad Act, highlighting its significance in advancing political and security relations with regional leaders, particularly India, to safeguard shared security and stability across the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The congressman extended his gratitude to Ranking Member Meeks for leading the bill through the House.

The Quad, revitalized in 2017, witnessed increased engagement, with annual summits held post-President Joe Biden’s assumption of office in 2021. While initially focused on security, the dialogue now encompasses a broader spectrum of issues, including health and technology cooperation among member nations. The Strengthening the Quad Act aligns with commitments made by Quad leaders, including Presidents Biden and Modi, to deepen collaboration in overcoming common challenges.

The legislation, introduced by Representative Gregory Meeks, envisions the formation of a 24-member US parliamentary group, evenly divided between the House of Representatives and the Senate. This group will facilitate sustained and enhanced engagement with senior officials from Quad countries on various issues, modeled on successful bilateral intra-parliamentary groups. Additionally, it mandates a strategy from the Secretary of State for bolstering engagement and cooperation with the Quad, showcasing democratic leadership in the Indo-Pacific.
