CLEVELAND, Ohio (Diya TV) — Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy praised the United States’ religious freedom during a recent speech in Trumbull County. He highlighted the ability of Americans to worship without fear or government interference.
Ramaswamy referenced the tragic attack on Jews at Bondi Beach in Australia to underscore the importance of religious liberty. On December 14, 2025, a mass shooting occurred during a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney. At least 15 people were killed, and dozens more were injured. Authorities believe a father-son duo carried out the attack. One suspect died, and the other remains in critical condition.
“The beauty of our country is you’re able to worship freely without somebody, you know, not only has the government threatening you, but somebody going unaccountable committing violence,” Ramaswamy said in a video posted on X.
Ramaswamy emphasized the strong protections for religious worship in the United States. He noted that Americans of all faiths—Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and others—can practice their beliefs openly.
He said, “For the Christian faith, for the Jewish faith, for the Hindu faith, whatever your faith is, you have in this country the unique opportunity to worship as you see fit without any man system, government, or bureaucracy getting in your way.”
Ramaswamy described this freedom as “the essence of what it means to be an American.” He warned that losing this liberty would undermine the nation’s identity.
The Ohio candidate also pointed to increased security at synagogues and other religious sites. He said the heightened police presence has helped people feel safer while practicing their faith.
“These measures ensure that worshippers can attend services without fear,” Ramaswamy said. “Public safety is a cornerstone of religious freedom.”
Ramaswamy’s comments followed the Bondi Beach attack, which shocked communities worldwide. The incident drew attention to the risks religious groups face abroad. Experts said the attack shows why protecting religious freedom and safety remains critical everywhere.
“The U.S. offers a unique model where religious liberty is protected by law,” Ramaswamy said. “We must maintain this as a priority. It is part of our national character.”
The Ohio candidate used the speech to frame religious freedom as a key value for Americans. He linked the principle to broader concerns about culture and society.
“And I think part of what’s happened is that, you know, the culture, the new cult,” Ramaswamy said, suggesting that current social trends threaten traditional freedoms.
Ramaswamy’s remarks come as debates over religious rights and public safety continue nationwide. Supporters say his focus on religious liberty resonates with voters concerned about both personal freedom and security.
Ramaswamy’s message was clear: the ability to worship freely is fundamental to American life. He urged citizens to recognize the value of religious liberty and to protect it against both violence and bureaucratic obstacles.
