MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Diya TV) — India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal urged Nike to expand its investment in India during talks with the sportswear company’s senior executives on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting.

Goyal met Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy, Chief Legal Officer Rob Leinwand and Chief Government and Public Affairs Officer Jorge Casimiro.

“When it comes to investing in India’s growth story, the message is simple: Just Do It,” Goyal wrote on X on Friday, borrowing Nike’s slogan.

He said the discussions covered manufacturing, local sourcing and opportunities in India’s sports sector. The meeting explored expanding Nike’s existing business ties with the country; Goyal’s statement did not announce a new investment commitment.

The Nike talks formed part of Goyal’s U.S. visit, which included meetings with manufacturing and technology executives in Milwaukee. At a roundtable hosted by the National Association of Manufacturers, he told business leaders that India’s government would help facilitate their operations, expansion and investment, according to the Commerce Ministry.

Goyal also met trade ministers from Australia, Saudi Arabia, France, South Korea and Canada, the ministry said.

Separately, he discussed a proposed interim trade agreement with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Goyal said the two sides sought an early conclusion, while Greer later told reporters that a deal was not imminent and negotiations would continue.

At the G20 gathering, Goyal called for a rules-based trading system centered on the World Trade Organization. He also urged governments to base measures addressing unfair trade and forced labour on verifiable evidence and established international rules.
