WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Friday released a collection of newly declassified documents that she said raise questions about Dr. Anthony Fauci’s role in funding coronavirus research, influencing intelligence assessments, and communicating with U.S. intelligence agencies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The release marks the latest development in the ongoing debate over the origins of COVID-19 and the government’s response to the global health crisis. Gabbard said the documents resulted from a yearlong declassification review conducted under President Donald Trump’s transparency initiative.

According to Gabbard, the records include communications, testimony, and whistleblower accounts related to research conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. The documents also focus on intelligence assessments concerning whether the virus emerged naturally or resulted from a laboratory accident.

Gabbard said the newly released material shows that Fauci, who led the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for decades, supported research involving bat coronaviruses through grants that ultimately reached the Wuhan lab. Critics of that research have argued that it increased the risk of a laboratory accident. However, debate continues among scientists and intelligence agencies over the exact origin of the virus.

In a statement accompanying the release, Gabbard said the American public deserves greater transparency about decisions made during the pandemic. She argued that some officials concealed important information and limited public access to facts related to COVID-19.

The documents also address interactions between Fauci and members of the Intelligence Community. According to Gabbard, those communications influenced assessments about the virus’s origins. She said intelligence officials frequently relied on recommendations from scientists connected to Fauci and his agency.

Furthermore, the release claims that some intelligence analysts felt pressure when they questioned conclusions that favored a natural origin theory. Testimony from several whistleblowers describes an environment where dissenting views received limited attention. Gabbard referred those allegations to the Intelligence Community’s inspector general for further review.

One whistleblower reportedly lost employment shortly after raising concerns with officials. Other accounts describe managers warning analysts that disagreements with leadership could affect future career opportunities. The documents suggest that these actions discouraged open debate within intelligence agencies.

In addition, the records focus on Fauci’s testimony before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in 2024. During that hearing, lawmakers questioned him about contacts with intelligence agencies regarding viral research and COVID-19 investigations.

On her final day as DNI, Gabbard said the newly released correspondence contradicts portions of Fauci’s sworn testimony. According to her office, the documents show communication between Fauci and intelligence officials that was not fully reflected in his congressional statements. The release alleges that Fauci denied knowledge of certain discussions involving intelligence agencies and viral research.

The findings are likely to intensify political debate surrounding the pandemic. For years, lawmakers, intelligence officials, and researchers have disagreed over the virus’s origins. While some agencies have supported the possibility of a laboratory leak, others have continued to examine evidence pointing to a natural transmission event.

Meanwhile, the release adds new attention to concerns about government transparency and intelligence oversight. Supporters of greater disclosure argue that public trust depends on open access to information. They also contend that agencies must allow competing views to receive fair consideration.

At the same time, critics of previous investigations have called for additional review of the newly released records. They argue that independent experts should examine the material before concluding on Fauci, intelligence agencies, or the origins of COVID-19.
