NEW YORK (Diya TV) — For the first time in three decades, New York City’s police department marked five days without a shooting victim, a milestone celebrated by the NYPD on social media Thursday. The department praised its officers’ efforts and attributed the success to their ongoing work in the city’s communities.
“We’ve reached the longest stretch without a shooting victim since the start of the CompStat era,” the NYPD posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, noting that the streak was the first of its kind in 30 years.
But the joy was short-lived. Minutes after the news, a 34-year-old man was shot several times in the leg in East New York, Brooklyn. The victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
City statistics show a decline in shootings in early 2025 compared to the same period last year, with 29 shootings so far, down from 39 in 2024. However, the number of shooting victims, at 45, remains unchanged from the previous year.
This incident comes amid an ongoing debate about gun violence, as cities across the country face challenges in combating shootings and ensuring public safety.
