NEW YORK (Diya TV) — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul for another term, calling their partnership a model for Democratic unity at a time of growing political pressure from Washington. New York Attorney General Letitia James also announced her support, strengthening Hochul’s reelection campaign as she prepares for a tough political fight ahead.

Mamdani announced his endorsement in an op-ed published in The Nation. He praised Hochul for working across differences and focusing on results for working families. He said their collaboration marked a shift in the relationship between Albany and City Hall.

Hochul revealed her choice for lieutenant governor just one day earlier. She selected former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, a move that helped solidify support among city leaders and progressive voters. Together, the endorsements signal strong backing from top Democratic officials in New York as Hochul seeks another term as governor.

Mamdani highlighted several joint efforts with Hochul, including the launch of a universal child care program. “We delivered this historic win together,” Mamdani wrote. He added that both leaders worked to protect immigrant communities and limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. He also said they defended democratic institutions and focused on helping working families remain in the city.

Mamdani said past tensions between state and city leaders often slowed progress. He credited Hochul with helping create a more productive relationship based on respect and communication. “At a moment of crisis, we chose a different path,” Mamdani wrote. He said both leaders were committed to making government work, even during disagreements.

The mayor acknowledged that he and Hochul do not agree on every issue. He pointed to ongoing differences over taxing wealthy New Yorkers. Still, he said those disagreements did not prevent progress.

“We must be able to disagree honestly while still delivering for the people we serve,” Mamdani wrote. He said trust and open dialogue helped them move forward.

Attorney General Letitia James echoed similar themes in her endorsement. She praised Hochul and Adams as dedicated public servants who focus on safety and affordability.

“I am honored to endorse Governor Kathy Hochul and former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams,” James said in a statement. She said the state has become safer and more affordable under their leadership.

James also emphasized the need to defend New York from what she called reckless actions by the federal government. She said she looks forward to working with Hochul and Adams to protect funding and civil rights across the state.

Hochul welcomed Mamdani’s endorsement and praised his role in expanding child care access. She said her administration remains focused on making New York affordable for families.

“Mayor Mamdani understands that we need to build a New York that everyone can afford,” Hochul said. She added that she values their partnership as the state faces political challenges from Washington.
