NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday broke his silence over a recent incident in Bihar where a youth verbally abused him and his late mother during an Opposition rally. The remarks, made on the stage of the RJD-Congress Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga on August 27, sparked widespread outrage and political debate across the state.

Speaking from New Delhi while launching the Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation, Modi condemned the abuse as deeply disrespectful, not just to his mother but to all mothers, sisters, and daughters in India. During the event, he also transferred ₹105 crore (more than $1.2 billion) into the federation’s bank account, aimed at supporting women’s enterprises.

Modi sharply criticized the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress. “From the RJD-Congress platform in Bihar, my mother was abused. These abuses are not just an insult to my mother; they are an insult to every mother, sister, and daughter in this country,” he said. He warned that while he might forgive, India has never tolerated the humiliation of mothers.

The Prime Minister accused Opposition parties of having an anti-women mindset. He alleged that the RJD never supported women’s progress and strongly opposed measures like women’s reservation. Modi highlighted the struggles women faced during the RJD rule, citing widespread crime, extortion, and harassment that disproportionately affected women.

“Whether it is RJD or Congress, these parties have always shown bewilderment toward women. They want to take revenge for being ousted from power and punish women,” Modi said.

Modi reflected on his late mother’s sacrifices and hard work. “A mother toils to educate and raise her children, instilling high values. That is why the place of a mother is above gods and goddesses,” he said. He added that his mother, who passed away after living more than 100 years, had no involvement in politics. “It is deeply saddening that she was subjected to vile abuses from a political platform,” he said.

He drew a clear line between leaders born into wealth and ordinary citizens who work hard to serve the nation. Without naming leaders, Modi said, “Young princes born into royal families cannot understand the penance of a poor mother or the suffering of her son. They believe power and leadership are inherited, but the people gave a blessing to a poor mother’s working son to serve the nation.”

The Prime Minister urged women across Bihar to demand accountability from the RJD and Congress for the incident. He emphasized that respecting mothers is a national priority. “The dignity, honor, and self-respect of mothers are very high priorities for our government. The mother is our world and our pride,” Modi said.

During his address, Modi explained that the new Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation initiative would support women in advancing their businesses and work. He assured that the National Democratic Alliance government in Bihar would continue to accelerate such programs in the coming months, aiming to empower women financially and socially.

The launch event was attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who joined Modi in highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment and governance reforms in the state.

The incident at the Darbhanga rally had created a political row in poll-bound Bihar. The BJP condemned the remarks and lodged a police complaint in Patna. The youth involved in the abuse was later arrested and issued an apology. Modi’s comments on Tuesday marked the first time he publicly addressed the matter.
