CLEVELAND, Ohio (Diya TV) — A bitter legal battle between U.S. Rep. Max Miller and his former wife has sparked fresh political concerns for Republicans in Ohio. The dispute includes serious allegations of domestic abuse, public accusations from both sides, and several ongoing court cases. As a result, party leaders now worry the controversy could affect Miller’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Miller, a second-term Republican who represents northeast Ohio, has denied all allegations made by his former wife, Emily Moreno. Moreno is the daughter of Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio. Meanwhile, Democrats have grown more optimistic about their chances of competing for the congressional seat.
The dispute has drawn attention from Republican leaders because the party faces a difficult election cycle. Every House seat could play an important role if Republicans hope to keep their majority.
Moreno has accused Miller of repeated domestic abuse during their marriage. Court records show she claimed Miller threw hot water from a skillet at her, causing burns to her chest and stomach. She also alleged that he held a gun to her head, pushed her into a wall, and struck her head.
In addition, Moreno claimed Miller fractured their young daughter’s collarbone and left bruises on the child’s shoulder. Court documents also state that their daughter once told her mother, “Daddy kill you.”
However, Miller has strongly rejected every accusation. Instead, he has launched legal action against Moreno and publicly challenged her claims. He has described the allegations as false and politically damaging.
Miller has accused Moreno of filing false reports with child protective services, medical professionals, and law enforcement agencies. He also filed a defamation lawsuit against her, claiming she has carried out a campaign to damage his reputation.
Furthermore, Miller has alleged that Moreno suffers from untreated bipolar disorder and has engaged in stalking. He has claimed that her actions have made both him and their daughter unsafe. He also argued that their daughter’s collarbone injury resulted from Moreno’s reckless driving rather than abuse.
Moreno’s attorney, Andrew Zashin, has rejected those claims. He said Moreno does not own a handgun and has never received a bipolar disorder diagnosis. Miller has also filed a lawsuit against Zashin.
Meanwhile, the legal dispute has continued to play out in court and in public. As both sides exchange accusations, the case has remained in the headlines.
According to people familiar with internal Republican discussions, some officials close to President Donald Trump have grown concerned about Miller’s political future. They believe the ongoing controversy could weaken his campaign and make the district more competitive than expected.
Several people familiar with those discussions said White House officials and Trump’s political advisers have monitored the situation closely. They reportedly believe Miller’s legal troubles have become a distraction during a critical election year.
Even so, Miller has dismissed suggestions that his congressional seat is at risk. In text messages to a reporter, he rejected claims that the race had become competitive. He expressed confidence that he would win re-election by a comfortable margin. He also criticized questions about the controversy and argued that reports involving his family were unfair.
Still, Democrats now see an opportunity in a district that once appeared safely Republican. At the same time, some Democratic strategists remain cautious because Republicans could still decide to replace Miller as their nominee before the state’s candidate deadline.
