WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Manjit Singh, co-founder of the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund, has been appointed by President Obama as the newest member of the Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, the White House announced Friday.
The announcement of Singh’s appointment came along with several others as the Obama administration approaches its final eight months in office.
“These fine public servants bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their important roles. I look forward to working with them,” President Obama said in a statement.
The advisory council seeks to bring together leaders and experts in fields related to the work of faith-based and neighborhood organizations in order to make recommendations to the president’s administration on how to improve the partnerships it forms to serve people in need.
It is charged with identifying the best practices and successful modes of delivering social services and making recommendations to the President and his administration on changes in policies, programs and practices, amongst other duties.
Singh, an engineer by trade, currently serves as the president of Agilious, a software technology consulting firm which he founded in 2013. Aside from the co-founder status he shares at the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund, he additionally chairs the board of directors for the media, policy and educational organization. He previously served the board of directors for the Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, and also as a member-at-large of the Board of the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan in Washington.
