LOS ANGELES (Diya TV) — Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is ready to shine in Netflix’s upcoming dance-based comedy, “Best of the Best”. “The Never Have I Ever” star will headline the film, which promises a mix of high-energy Bollywood dance and heartfelt friendship.
Netflix announced “Everything To Me” actor Priyanka Kedia and stand-up comic Hasan Minhaj will also play key roles in the movie.
“Best of the Best” follows Maya, played by Ramakrishnan, and Anjali, portrayed by Kedia. The two childhood best friends join their college’s competitive Bollywood dance team. What starts as a fun adventure quickly turns into a challenging journey. The duo discovers that winning the national championship is more raucous and cutthroat than they expected.
The movie will show the dance team as more than just a place to perform. It becomes a space for the South Asian community to build and cultural connection. At the same time, the film delivers plenty of comedy, balancing drama with lighthearted moments.
Fans can expect vibrant Bollywood fusion dance numbers throughout the film. The choreography highlights both traditional and modern styles, capturing the energy and spirit of South Asian culture. Beyond dance, the story explores the trials of young adulthood. It emphasizes friendship, teamwork, and resilience, resonating with audiences of all ages.
Lena Khan, who previously directed Ramakrishnan in four episodes of “Never Have I Ever,” will direct “Best of the Best.” Khan brings her experience in creating relatable, character-driven stories. Hasan Minhaj will co-write the film alongside Prashanth Venkataramanujam.
In addition to Ramakrishnan, Kedia, and Minhaj, the film features a talented ensemble cast. Chaneil Kular of “Sex Education” fame, Ankur Rathee from “Shehzada,” and Shreya Navile from “Month of Madhu” are all part of the project.
