LeBron James has been selected as the flag bearer for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a prestigious honor that embodies his impact on basketball and his leadership both on and off the court. Nominated by his teammate Steph Curry, James will lead the Americans during the Opening Ceremony on July 26.
James’ selection as the flag bearer is a testament to his storied career and commitment to Team USA. This will mark his return to Olympic competition after an eight-year hiatus, having previously won gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, and a bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
James expressed his excitement about the role, stating, “It’s an incredible honor to represent the United States on this global stage, especially in a moment that can bring the whole world together. For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means everything to not only myself, but to my family, all the kids in my hometown, my teammates, fellow Olympians and so many people across the country with big aspirations. James is the first men’s basketball player to carry the flag for Team USA. Before him, women’s basketball icons Sue Bird and Dawn Staley were chosen as flag-bearers in 2020 and 2004, respectively.
