BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Diya TV) — Indian-origin executive Kruti Patel Goyal has been named the next Chief Executive Officer of Etsy, Inc., marking a major leadership shift at the global online marketplace known for its creative and handcrafted products. Goyal, currently Etsy’s President and Chief Growth Officer, will officially take over as CEO on January 1, 2026, succeeding Josh Silverman, who has led the company since 2017.

Etsy announced the leadership transition on October 29, 2025, signaling the start of a new era for the Brooklyn-based e-commerce giant. Goyal will also join the company’s Board of Directors as part of her new role.

Silverman will step down as CEO at the end of 2025 but continue to serve as Executive Chair through December 31, 2026. Fred Wilson, Etsy’s longtime Board Chair, will also step down from that role while remaining on the board.

“It has been an honor to lead Etsy and help foster creativity and self-expression in a world increasingly shaped by automation,” Silverman said in a statement. “Kruti is fabulously talented and the right leader to guide the business forward.”

He praised Goyal for her vision and leadership, noting her success at Depop, Etsy’s secondhand fashion marketplace. Under Goyal’s guidance, Depop nearly doubled both its gross merchandise sales and buyer base, earning a spot on TIME’s list of the 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024.

Goyal joined Etsy in 2011, working on product and seller teams before moving into executive leadership roles. Over more than a decade, she has overseen Product, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Support, Trust and Safety, Strategy, and Operations.

In 2019, Goyal became Chief Product Officer, helping shape Etsy’s user experience and growth strategy. By 2022, she was appointed CEO of Depop, which Etsy had acquired for $1.6 billion in 2021. Her leadership revitalized Depop’s brand and strengthened its presence among younger consumers. Goyal returned to Etsy’s main business in 2025 as President and Chief Growth Officer, leading efforts that improved performance and restored growth momentum.

“I’m honored and excited to step into the CEO role at such a pivotal time,” Goyal said. “As customer needs continue to evolve, Etsy will too—but we’ll do it in a way that stays true to who we are: human connection, creativity, and a distinctly personal shopping experience.”

Under Silverman’s leadership, Etsy grew from a niche crafts marketplace into a global e-commerce powerhouse. During his eight-year tenure, the company saw shoppers more than triple, gross merchandise sales (GMS) grow fourfold, and revenue increase nearly eightfold. Etsy’s share price also rose more than seven times.

Silverman’s focus on sustainable growth and mission-driven commerce helped Etsy navigate economic challenges while maintaining its identity as a community for independent creators.

Board Chair Fred Wilson commended both leaders for their roles in shaping Etsy’s success. “We have full confidence in Kruti’s ability to lead Etsy into its next chapter,” he said. “Her vision and experience will help strengthen our marketplace, serve our community, and deliver value to our stakeholders.”

With Goyal’s appointment, Etsy joins a growing list of global technology companies led by Indian-origin CEOs, including Sundar Pichai at Google and Satya Nadella at Microsoft. Goyal’s promotion underscores the rising influence of Indian executives in global business leadership.

The 49-year-old executive brings experience from major firms like Morgan Stanley, General Atlantic Partners, and Viacom, where she worked in Mergers & Acquisitions, growth equity, and strategy before joining Etsy.

Etsy, founded in 2005 and now valued at $6.46 billion, connects millions of buyers and sellers in more than 200 countries. The company has faced slowing growth in recent years, prompting a renewed focus on innovation, customer experience, and emerging markets—areas where Goyal is expected to drive change.
