TUCSON, Ariz. (Diya TV) — Federal and local authorities are intensifying the search for the missing mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, as President Donald Trump pledges full federal support and FBI Director Kash Patel plans to travel to southern Arizona to assist in the effort.
FBI Director Kash Patel is preparing for a trip to Tucson as part of a broader federal response to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84, according to two sources familiar with the matter. Patel was already scheduled to be in the area for another engagement and is now devoting all available resources to the case, the sources said. Arizona officials continue to lead the investigation. The FBI is supporting state and local law enforcement as needed. Authorities are treating the case as suspicious and are investigating it as a possible kidnapping or abduction.
President Trump said on Truth Social that he spoke directly with Savannah Guthrie after her mother went missing over the weekend. He said he directed all federal law enforcement agencies to place themselves at the complete disposal of the family and local authorities.
Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has known Guthrie for more than 25 years, spoke with the television anchor by phone on Wednesday. Bondi is receiving frequent updates on the case, according to Axios. Her involvement adds another layer of federal attention to an investigation that has drawn national focus due to Guthrie’s public profile.
Officials stressed that Arizona authorities remain in charge. Federal agencies are providing backup, technical support, and coordination as needed. A source familiar with the situation said Patel is prepared to adjust his plans and respond directly if the situation requires it.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday night at her home in the Catalina Foothills area, north of Tucson. Investigators believe someone took her from the residence under suspicious circumstances.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS News that investigators are examining a possible ransom note sent to a local television station. Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the note and continue to evaluate all leads. Law enforcement officials have not released details about potential suspects. They have also not confirmed whether surveillance footage or physical evidence ties directly to an abduction. The sheriff’s department said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released an emotional video on Instagram asking for their mother’s safe return. In the video, Guthrie described her mother as frail and in urgent need of medical care.
“She’s 84 years old,” Guthrie said. “Her health and her heart are fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive, and she needs it not to suffer.”
The family acknowledged reports of a ransom letter but urged caution. Guthrie said the family is ready to communicate but needs proof that her mother is alive and safe.
“We live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated,” she said. “We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen.”
The disappearance has drawn widespread attention because of Guthrie’s role as a co-host of NBC’s “Today” show. The involvement of the White House, the Justice Department, and the FBI has further elevated the case. President Trump’s public pledge to deploy all federal resources underscores the urgency authorities are placing on the search. His statement came shortly after the family’s public appeal, signaling close coordination between federal officials and the Guthrie family.
