MONTREAL, Quebec (Diya TV) —

Wanda Kagan, in an article to Oprah Daily, opened up about her relationship with her high school best friend Kamala Harris and said the now Vice President was there for her at one of the most challenging points of her life. Kagan and Harris attended Montreal’s Westmount High School. Harris noticed something was troubling Kagan. She finally opened up to Harris about the abuse she was suffering at the hands of her stepfather. Harris invited Kagan to stay with her family and helped her through that trauma.

The experience led Harris to a profession in law as prosecutor, focusing on protecting such vulnerable women and children. “One of the reasons I wanted to be a prosecutor was to protect people like her,” Harris shared.

Kagan also credits her for saving her from death at the worst moments. The two lost contact after high school for some years, but were reconnected in 2005 after Kagan saw Harris on television. Kagan, a public speaker, and philanthropist, named her daughter Maya after Harris’ sister in support of their sisterhood.
