NEW YORK (Diya TV) — JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is under fire after a secretly recorded audio came out in which he employed foul language to bash Rohit Chopra, the former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The audio, which was leaked to Forbes, was recorded during a town hall session with staff in Columbus, Ohio.
In the recording, Dimon insults Chopra, referring to him as an “arrogant, out-of-touch son of a b***h” and blaming him for making it worse for many Americans. Dimon asserted that the CFPB under Chopra’s management overstepped its mandate, claiming that other agencies already manage consumer protections well.
Dimon has also weighed in on the closing of the agency, saying, “So if they eliminate it or not, it doesn’t matter to me. It ought to be, but it should be within the OCC as it was before banks.” The CFPB, which was closed by then-President Donald Trump, has been contentious between regulators and financial institutions.
The remarks have heightened existing tensions between regulators and the banking industry, as well as raising questions about the future of consumer protection agencies.
JPMorgan has yet to release a statement responding to the leaked comments. Chopra, who President Biden appointed, headed the CFPB from 2021 until last month and has been criticized by some parts of the financial sector for his policies.
