SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) -Janani Ramachandran has declared victory in her race to become the next Oakland City Councilmember representing District 4 with more than 64% of the vote. At 30 years old, Ramachandran will be the youngest Councilmember in the city’s history. She will also be the city’s first Indian American Councilmember, and the first queer woman of color to be elected to the Council.
Democrats Salman Bhojani and Suleman Lalani made history on November 8 by becoming the first Pakistani American lawmakers elected to the Texas House. According to advocacy group Council on American Islamic Relations, Bhojani and Lalani are two of 38 Muslims who won seats in state legislatures this election.
Georgia is on track to become the center of the political universe over the next four weeks, as control for the U.S. Senate could once again hinge on the results of a runoff in the state. Neither Sen. Raphael Warnock nor Republican Herschel Walker cleared 50 percent during Tuesday’s election, forcing a head-to-head matchup on Dec. 6 between the two candidates.
