HOUSTON (Diya TV) — Musaafer, an upscale Indian restaurant based out of Houston’s Galleria, has just received a Michelin star. The restaurant is one of six Michelin-starred restaurants in Houston, in Michelin’s first time reviewing restaurants in Texas.

The restaurant, which is owned by Shammi and Mithu Malik, is known for its modern take on traditional Indian dishes. This modern take is the vision of executive corporate chef, Mayank Istwal. “We are deeply honored by this Michelin star, which reflects the passion and dedication of our entire team,” Istwal stated. “It’s a tribute to Indian cuisine and its growing influence in America.”

The Michelin star not only speaks to Musaafer’s commitment to excellence but also puts Houston on the international culinary map. According to the owners of Musaafer, it is the local community that has ushered them into success. “Our journey has been supported by the people of Houston. Their adventurous spirit and love for diverse flavors have helped us grow,” Mithu Malik said.

Musaafer or “traveler” in Hindi translates into a menu inspired by the culinary traditions of various regions of India. Its dishes are the result of fusing authentic Indian flavors with modern techniques to give a dining experience that has been grabbed both by locals and international visitors alike.

The Michelin Guide awards one star to restaurants that serve “good-quality cooking” with exceptional ingredients, balance, and creativity. This honor has elevated the status of Musaafer, which now joins an elite group of restaurants in the U.S. that are celebrated for their culinary mastery.

Musaafer’s recognition has also elevated Houston’s standing as a growing destination for fine dining. “We are proud to be part of this vibrant city’s restaurant culture and to contribute to its culinary evolution,” said Shammi Malik.

Chef Istwal echoed the sentiment, adding, “We feel privileged to represent Indian cuisine at this level, and we’re excited to see Houston’s dining scene continue to thrive.”
