BELLEVUE, Wash. (Diya TV) — The Consulate General of India in Seattle and the Bellevue School District hosted a cultural outreach event that brought India’s traditions, art, and heritage closer to American students. Titled “Celebrating India,” the event took place on March 21 at Interlake High School in Bellevue. It aimed to introduce students to India’s rich cultural diversity through hands-on activities, performances, and interactive sessions.

The program created an engaging space for students to explore Indian culture. Organizers designed the event to spark curiosity and build cross-cultural understanding.

Students learned about India’s long history, diverse traditions, and modern growth. Presentations highlighted the country’s democratic system, cultural diversity and fast-growing economy. Speakers kept the sessions clear and easy to follow, helping students connect with the material. The Consulate General of India in Seattle said the initiative aimed to give young learners a deeper understanding of India beyond textbooks.

One of the main highlights of the event was a Madhubani art workshop. Students painted bookmarks while learning about this traditional Indian art form, which comes from the Mithila region. Teachers guided students through basic patterns and techniques. The activity allowed students to express creativity while understanding the cultural roots of the art style. Many students showed enthusiasm as they experimented with colors and designs. The workshop stood out because it combined learning with creativity. It also helped students appreciate how art reflects culture and history.

The event also featured a live performance of Kuchipudi, a classical dance form from Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district. The performance introduced students to India’s classical dance traditions through expressive storytelling and rhythmic movements. Students also took part in an interactive “Know India Quiz.” The quiz tested their knowledge about Indian geography, culture and history. It kept the audience engaged and encouraged participation.

Film screenings added another layer to the cultural experience. Students watched clips from popular Bollywood films such as Dangal and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. These films offered a glimpse into modern Indian society, relationships, and values.

Organizers also arranged a tasting session featuring Indian cuisine. Students sampled a variety of dishes and experienced the country’s diverse flavors. Many students expressed interest in learning more about Indian cooking and ingredients.

The Bellevue event was part of a broader outreach effort by the Consulate General of India in Seattle. A similar program took place on March 20 at the Northshore Performing Arts Center in Bothell for students from the Northshore School District.

Officials said these programs aim to strengthen cultural ties between India and the United States. They also hope to build mutual understanding among younger generations.
