Neeru Khosla is expected to serve as controlling owner, while son Neal Khosla takes a significant leadership role. The family must divest its stake in NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers.
SEATTLE (Diya TV) — The Khosla family has reached a formal agreement to purchase the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks for a reported $9.612 billion, shattering the record for the largest sale of an NFL franchise.
The agreement transfers the Seahawks from the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen to an ownership group that includes Indian American Silicon Valley investor Vinod Khosla, education entrepreneur Neeru Khosla and their son, healthcare technology executive Neal Khosla.
An NFL memorandum circulated to the league’s 32 teams identified Neeru Khosla as the prospective controlling owner. Neal Khosla is expected to hold a significant leadership role within the ownership group.
If approved, Neeru Khosla would become the first Indian American woman to serve as controlling owner of an NFL franchise.
“We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks,” Vinod Khosla said on behalf of the family. “We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”
The Seahawks formally announced the agreement Saturday. Financial terms were not disclosed by the team, but multiple reports placed the price at $9.612 billion.
The transaction remains subject to review by the NFL Finance Committee and approval by league owners.
The reported price easily surpasses the previous NFL record established by the Washington Commanders’ $6.05 billion sale in 2023. It also represents an extraordinary increase from the $194 million Allen paid to purchase the Seahawks in 1997.
Allen died in 2018, leaving instructions for his assets to be sold and the proceeds directed toward philanthropic causes. His sister, Jody Allen, has overseen the franchise and the broader Paul G. Allen estate since his death.
Vinod Khosla said the proceeds from the Seahawks transaction would go to a nonprofit organization, adding that the family would not comment further until the sale is completed.
The acquisition also creates an unusual ownership transition within one of the NFL’s fiercest divisional rivalries.
The Khosla family purchased a 3.1% minority interest in the San Francisco 49ers in May 2025. Because the Seahawks and 49ers compete in the same NFC West division, the family must divest its San Francisco stake before assuming control in Seattle.
The Khoslas’ relationship with the 49ers extends far beyond their brief tenure as investors. Vinod and Neal Khosla had been 49ers season-ticket holders for approximately 30 years, beginning during the team’s years at Candlestick Park.
In an exclusive Diya TV interview in February, 49ers principal owner Jed York described the Khoslas as longtime friends of the organization.
York said he had known Vinod Khosla for years and called the family “great people” and “huge additions” to the 49ers ownership group. He also revealed that Neal Khosla had interned with the franchise while he was in high school.
The Seahawks purchase now moves the family from holding a passive interest in one NFL team to directing another.
Neeru Khosla is the co-founder and chair of the CK-12 Foundation, a nonprofit organization that develops free digital educational materials and personalized learning technology. She holds graduate degrees in molecular biology and education, including a master’s degree from Stanford University.
Vinod Khosla co-founded Sun Microsystems before establishing Khosla Ventures, one of Silicon Valley’s most prominent venture-capital firms. Born in India, he earned an electrical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi before completing graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University and Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Neal Khosla is the founder and CEO of Curai Health, an artificial intelligence-powered healthcare company. He has also worked in sports analytics and previously consulted with professional sports organizations.
The family will inherit a franchise at the height of its competitive success. Seattle enters the ownership transition as the defending Super Bowl champion after capturing the second championship in franchise history.
The Seahawks’ sale therefore represents more than a record-setting financial transaction. It places one of American sports’ most prominent franchises under the leadership of an Indian American family, with Neeru Khosla positioned to hold the NFL’s highest level of individual ownership authority.
The family’s first challenge will be preserving the stability and culture of a championship organization while completing the league’s approval process and earning the confidence of Seattle’s intensely loyal fan base.
